To all the G4TechTV fans: Thanks for two great years! My goodbye video
It's been almost two years to the day since I first joined Call for Help with Leo Laporte on G4TechTV. After almost 500 shows, including Torrent and Gadgets & Gizmos, I'm sad to say that I'm leaving the channel and the many great people on the team. I've learned so much, especially from my dear friend Leo, and I want to thank both the team at G4TechTV and the fans from around the world.
While it's difficult to say goodbye, I'm definitely ready for some new challenges while still focusing on tech/Internet content. Starting mid-September, I'll be working at City-TV in Toronto in a new role for them as their Internet/New Media Reporter on City-TV News. I'll also be the Host/Producer of a weekly show on CP24 (which will start late October) that will cover the pop/tech culture world that I've grown to love.
There is also good news for folks who don't get City-TV at home. Since City-TV is very aggressive on the web side of the media equation, we'll be working together to get a lot of interactive content/segments I do online - including blogs, podcasting, and more.
I will keep blogging here at AmberMac.com and I will bring you tech news each week at commandN.tv. Leo and I have also been chatting about how we'll keep working together, so this is not the end of us (AKA Leober)!
As for who will take my place on G4TechTV, on both Call for Help and Torrent, the team is working to find someone (or, most likely, two people). The shows we're shooting this week will air throughout the next month or two, but I wanted to write a not-so-short post/post a video to thank all the fans so much for your many emails of encouragement and I hope you will continue to follow my work at City-TV! Thank you for accepting me into this unique tech-friendly community - now I'll never leave! :)

Congrats on the move to CityTV! Now I'll have a reason to watch City again! (as well as CP24 for something other than their traffic cams :-) )

Amber - Congrats on the new gig. You will be dearly missed on your current shows but I certainly understand the desire for new challenges. I will definitely continue to watch you at City-TV as well as Command-N and Inside the Net. Good luck at your new job... hope you enjoy the new challenges as much as we enjoy your wonderful tech-perspective.

Hopefully you can bring some fact to their sensational fiction ;) Congrats on the move! As someone already mentioned, now there is a better reason that traffic cams to watch CP24.
You just need to get a spot on the morning show while Liza is on maternity...

Amber, congratulations on the move. I'm sure you will be very missed on G4TechTV, however you have become a constant and important voice in the tech
Evolution for you and your career is natural. Of course I remain a constant fan of Comman-N and all you do.

Good luck, I'll continue to watch your work no matter where it comes from. 'Cause I... well... I think you are pretty special. Well I'd better hit the "Post" button before I sniff... sniff... lose it. See you next pretty lady.

I can finally congratulate you in public!
For those not in the know, CityTV is a fairly big deal in Toronto and some parts of Canada. They are affiliated with MuchMusic, Bravo, Star! and a ton of other speciality and local channels. This is going to make Amber a big celebrity up here as both CityTV and CP24 have a lot more viewers than G4.
Amber is a perfect fit at City. They are really pushing for online content (CP24.com even lets viewers upload video and photos of newsworthy events, etc.) and they have a young audience that "get" new media.
Even if it's going to be hard to walk down the street with her now, I am very proud of Amber and can't wait to see what she does at City.
Congrats again A!

Props to you for making a video and explaining your reasons before the internet rumor mill had a chance to start.
A big sigh in releaf that commandN will live on and you'll still devote time to it.
Best of luck to you on your new gig at City-TV.

I will sincerely genuinely, miss your Mac's great Smile from the opening of call for help. You will be truly be miss from CFH 2.0 fan base from around the world. This is definitely a sad day for Geek Television.

Amber, Not all that long ago, I was looking for something to "energize" my mind. Nothing chemical. Ideas, thought provoking presentations, and exploration of new frontiers. However, like many people, I was now 32 and very absorbed by my work and where I lived, so adventurous endevours, seemed difficult to come by. Then I got digital cable. And suddenly I stumbled on a show, aptly named "Call For Help". And on this show, were people speaking of technology, and how it affects not only geeks, but everybody. And I was sucked in. Admittedly, that was when there were 3, which soon became 2 (Still love ya, Cyberwalker!). And now, back to 1. CFH is certainly amazing, and you are a huge part of it (as is your entire team). BUT as you and I know, Call For Help has been around in many formats, for many years, and while you are my favourite (flattery overload), and I will miss you, none of us will ever forget you, nor fault you for doing what is best for AmberMac. I applaud you (easy for me to say. I get and "get" CityTV) for YOUR sense of adventure. And certainly, when I can, I will look for you on the streets of T.O., filming yourself in a mirrored building or whatever, and say hi. You (and Leo, and Andy) all brought me back to my true calling: techy geeky things. I once again enjoy the complexities of the tech world, and learn something everyday. So thank you Amber. We will all miss you, but only because you have affected us all so strongly. (And lets be honest, with the Net being what it is, you are only a visit for AmberMac away, from our "Amberfix").

Certainly a shock to see this over lunch -- but it sounds like a great career move -- best of luck!

Amber,
Congratulations and much success in your new endeavor. I've enjoyed your work on Command-N, CFH, and Inside the Net. Hoping your new responsibilities will leave time for continued podcast work with Leo.
All the best !!

Congrats, Amber! I love your podcast "Inside the Net" and wanted to wish you the best with CityTV. You make us geek-girls proud!
Posted by: Tammy | August 28, 2006 at 01:51 PM
Amber, will you still do weekly web workshop segments like you did before you were cohost? That would be a great way that we can still see you on CFH.
After several co-hosts on the show, you were the best :(....

funny how i tried getting a job there after graduating college with a degree in radiot/tv, but its tough being an American and getting a job in Canada. at least now i know i need to get a job at g4 tv before i have a chance in hell in Canada. wishing you the best of luck. (oh and hook me up with a job/internship there :D)

Amber,
Wishing you the best in your new job!
I hope you do continue on with Leo and the gang... I'm afraid I get too far behind on video podcasts, so Inside the Net is where I normally listen to you. I've learned a lot from that show and have passed it along to many others. :)

Amber,
I wish you success at your new job. Looking forward to more episodes of CommandN and Inside the Net.
P.S. Don't forget to cross post to your Vox account. Thanks to your podcast on Vox, I got an account and have you listed as a neighbor.

Congratulations on the new position. CityTV is one of the best things that has happened to Canada. I remember Michael Moore saying in an interview. "CityTV is great, everything else is bullsh!#. All the other stations just copy US formats. CityTV is unique and and original" You should fit right in!
